Williamstown FC raises $3,360 for QLD Floods Appeal
The Club's inaugural Community BBQ was a roaring success with members of the Williamstown, and Western Suburbs community embracing the opportunity to come down and meet the 2011 playing list and Senior Coach Peter German.
Supporters were given the chance to mingle with players and enjoy a delicious BBQ in what was a wonderful day in Williamstown. Some of the Seagulls faithful jumped on board in season 2011 buying memberships on the day. The Community BBQ was created, and delivered by the Club's Leadership Group.
The event provided a perfect platform to raise funds for those in need up North who have suffered from the horrific floods. On the day players roamed the streets of Williamstown asking for donations and it was no surprise to see the Williamstown community dig deep to help out. In total $1,680 was raised by the playing group and the Williamstown Community.
On seeing the hard work the 2011 Playing List put in, and the response from the Williamstown community, The Williamstown Football Club has decided to match the total of $1,680 raised by the players and contribute another $1,680 to the appeal. An overall total of $3,360 will be donated.
Williamstown Football Manager Chris Dixon said the club was delighted with the response of the Community BBQ. "I think it was a real eye-opener to our new recruits to see how much the Community loves the Williamstown Football Club. We had a fabulous response from people on the day and our players really enjoyed getting out there and meeting the public."
"Through the hard work of the players, and the support of the Community, a significant amount of money was raised. We thought as a Club that it was fitting we match the contribution dollar for dollar to those who are in need in Queensland. Speaking both personally, and on behalf of the Club we are extremely proud of the playing group and what they have done. We'd also like to thank the Williamstown Community for supporting the BBQ and obviously for their contribution to the Queensland Floods Appeal.
