We spoke with Western Bulldogs recruiting manager Scott Clayton to gather his thoughts on the 2009 NAB AFL Rookie Draft.

Draft summary
"We certainly wanted to add some speed. At the NAB AFL Draft, we came in with three tall players and I wanted to add some inside speed, and Jamason Daniels certainly fulfils that.

"With our partnership with Williamstown, both the Bulldogs and Williamstown were keen to pursue a player under that alignment, and we're pleased to get Liam Picken in that role.

"Ultimately though, speed was the answer today in a follow up to the national draft."

Selection No.14: Jamason Daniels
Murray Bushrangers, VIC, Midfielder, August 10, 1990, 182cm, 78kg
"He's from the Bushrangers and I think he can play inside as a quick, ball-carrying midfielder, and he's a great character so we're really pleased. Straight after the national draft, he was the one we identified and liked straight away, so we're pleased with getting him."

Selection No.30: Liam Picken
Williamstown, VIC, Midfielder, August 1, 1986, 183cm, 80kg
"He's another quick inside player, and it's a testament to hard work. He just shows that if you keep persevering, it can happen for you. He's quite quick and he can run, and with the extra training, hopefully we can just finish off his skills and see where he can go."

Selection No.45: PASS
"Unfortunately, the decision to pass was financial. There was a couple there we wanted so we would have loved to have been able to, but we just didn't have the funds to go any further this year."

Selection No.59: PASS

Selection No.72: Chris Ogle (NSW scholarship player)
UNSW/Eastern Suburbs, NSW, Defender, October 1, 1990, 186cm, 76kg
"We've put a couple of years of development into him, and it just shows our commitment to the NSW apprenticeship scheme. He's a super athlete, has a great speed-endurance combination, and once again, it's a challenge for us to hone his skills and make him an AFL player."
