The Western Bulldogs hosted a delegation from Liverpool Football Club on Tuesday, ahead of the European soccer giant’s exhibition match against Melbourne Victory on Wednesday night.

A relationship born from the Bulldogs’ visit to Liverpool’s headquarters at Anfield last November, staff from both clubs met again to share knowledge on their respective community programs.

“Forbes who works with our [Liverpool Foundation] has been in conversations with some of the staff from the Western Bulldogs, talking about our men’s health program,” Paul Rogers, Liverpool’s Head of International Digital Development, told westernbulldogs.com.au.

“There’s some learnings that we’ve tried to share today, and we think we can learn some stuff out of the [programs] that the Bulldogs do.

“[The Bulldogs] are seen as the community club of the AFL, which I think is quite a nice reputation to have, and Liverpool Football Club sees itself as a team that engages very closely with our community and our fan base.”

Liverpool’s visit to Australia is the first in the English Premier League club’s 120 year history, and will potentially provide the Reds’ with the largest crowd they’ve played before if the Melbourne Cricket Ground nears capacity on Wednesday night.

The English clubs’ highest attendance on home soil sits at 61,905 for an FA Cup clash against Wolves in the 1951-52 season.

“Everyone’s really excited, it’s quite unbelievable. We’ve had some new players joining the football club in the summer so this is their first experience of Liverpool,” said Rogers

“95,000 to 100,000 fans will be there [at the MCG].

“It doesn’t get much better as an introduction to the football club.”

Two of these signings include Spaniards Luis Alberto and Iago Aspas, who both switched from their respective Spanish La Liga teams to
Liverpool for transfer fees in excess of £6.8 million each.

Rogers added that the response from the Australian public to the Merseyside club’s visit has been unprecedented.

“We know what to expect when we went to Indonesia, and we went to Thailand, there’s an unbelievable amount of fans there. We weren't quite sure what  reaction we’d get when we landed in Australia.”

“We come out through arrivals, and the fans and the scenes, we’d never quite seen anything like it.”
