The Western Bulldogs' men’s health program, Sons of the West reached new heights in 2015, with participation trebling on its first year.
While each man who took part had their own story, Jonathan Manallack of West Footscray was brave enough to share his personal journey with the Club in a short film entitled ‘Make the rest of your life, the best of your life.”
At the beginning of 2015, Jonathan set up video camera in his home, and would regularly sit down and record his experiences, both good and bad. He allowed us to follow him to the weekly sessions in Footscray with a camera, and to his regular catch ups with Sons of the West ambassador and Club legend Tony Liberatore, who acted as a mentor.
Jonathan has laid out his life, his challenges, his wins and his losses for all to see. When the Club spoke to him about doing this earlier in the year, we didn’t know what the result would be, and nor did he.
There was always a possibility that he may not make it to the end of the program, nor achieve the goals he set for himself, so what you see all unfolded in real time.
It’s raw, it’s emotional, and it's inspiring.
