Williamstown has lost their first home game of the season, after ladder leaders Port Melbourne broke the game open in the fourth term to record a 47 point win at Burbank Oval.
There were plenty of momentum swings in the top of the table clash, as both teams looked to gain the upper hand.
The football was bruising early with the two sides going hard at the football trying to win the contested ball.
After Port Melbourne kicked the first two goals, Williamstown steadied through Lachie Hunter and Anthony Anastasio, with the teenage pair restoring some much needed momentum for the home side.
Two further goals for the quarter saw Williamstown take a seven point lead into the first change.
The second and third quarters followed a similar pattern, with Port Melbourne able to hit the scoreboard early only for the young Seagulls to keep in touch with late goals.
The home side had to work to find avenues to goal, while Port Melbourne’s tall forward line was looking dangerous all day.
Ed Carr, Daniel Cross and Christian Howard were winning plenty of possessions on ball, however disposal efficiency across the board let the home side down across the four quarters.
With just ten points the difference heading into the final term, Port Melbourne proved far too strong in the last quarter kicking six goals to one – subsequently claiming the 47 point win and cementing top spot.
Leigh Masters was solid in the back half all game while Christian Howard impressed across half back and on ball.
