Williamstown Seniors:

Westernbulldogs.com.au chats to Development Coach Ashley Hansen about the progress of the Bulldogs listed players in the VFL.

Patrick Veszpremi: He played well Paddy – kicked extremely well and contributed on the scoreboard with three goals. His work rate around the ground was probably the best for the year in staying involved in the contest. He played his role really well for the side.

Jason Tutt: Tutty also played half forward and we started to really see some elite running patterns from him, as he started to use his pace and his aerobic ability which are his two main weapons. His defensive pressure was also a highlight of Tutty’s game. Probably cost himself on the scoreboard a couple of times, missing goals that we thought he could have finished off, but he is in good form.

Jarrad Grant: Grant was also good playing predominantly up forward. His defensive pressure was the best it has been for a year. He hit the score board but also missed a couple he probably should have taken. He was also unselfish on a couple of occasions to help his teammates, so he had a solid day.

Daniel Pearce: He played just about everywhere on the weekend – he played down back, he was through the midfield and forward. When he went forward he was really dangerous with his strong hands and marking being a highlight. His versatility was really important for Willy’s game plan and he played well.

Lukas Markovic: Marko was very solid all day. He defended well. No frills but did the job and played accordingly, sticking to game structures and rules.

Tom Williams: The main thing for Tommy was he got through the game and he showed some of his athletic prowess with the way he moved. Did some really nice things as well in the ruck, while his ground level work was really good and he physically imposed himself on a couple of occasions. He will be better off for the run.

Michael Talia: Talia had an ok game – he didn’t do anything wrong. It was a solid defensive hitout and he did his job. He didn’t do anything outstanding because it probably wasn’t required of him.

Christian Howard: He had a quieter game by his standards, playing on the half back and wing.  Did a couple of really good contested ball, aggressive efforts. He just needs to get some consistency to his game - which he will find I’m sure.

Lin Jong: Started really well – he had six touches before the end of the first quarter where he suffered a fracture to his leg. It’s not a bad break, it’s only a crack of the fibula so it’s a non-weight bearing bone. It’s unfortunate for him with two games and he’s been injured in both, after a solid pre-season.

Jack Macrae: Macrae was probably the best player on the ground for the Bulldogs. His ball use was a highlight, finished off with two goals and 28 touches. He’s really starting to buy into both aspects of the game, defensively and offensively. He is developing really well and showed his class on the weekend.

Jake Stringer: Started slowly but to his credit worked his way into the game really well, to the point where he probably did turn the match in the third quarter with a bit of show time. His contested marking in the second half, work rate and finishing ability were highlights. He’s still working into some match fitness and has got a bit of work to do but is improving rapidly and was a really important player on the day.

Mark Austin: He was good I thought. Early he repelled a few of the Coburg attacks with some strong contested marks in the back half. It was good to see him back himself in and use the ball very well. He was once again a part of that formidable backline that was really solid and strong all day and didn’t give much away.

Development League:

Westernbulldogs.com.au chat to Development Coach Chris Maple about the progress of Bulldogs listed players in the VFL Development League at Williamstown.

Lachie Hunter: He had 30 possessions, one goal and ten clearances, outstanding considering he was tagged for two quarters. He used the ball really well and was the best player on the ground throughout the day.

Josh Prudden: Prudden also had 29 possessions, one goal and five clearances on the day. His ball use was outstanding and just his poise under pressure was very good. His willingness to run defensively was excellent.

Fletcher Roberts: He was probably the second best player on the ground, playing as a forward and in the ruck. He took ten marks and wasn’t out marked all day. He led well and kicked three goals, six behinds – so it could have easily have been a big day. There was some very hard running and he played at a very high level.

Jack Redpath: Redpath played his first game down back, so we wanted to have a look at him as a defender. Did very well for a first game, and created a lot of run from behind. Did a lot of one on one marking - won eight or nine marks and kicked an outstanding long goal.
