Fresh from a two week break, the Western Bulldogs playing group returned to Victoria University Whitten Oval for their first training session of the new year on Monday.

After holidays for the Christmas and new years period, a time trial run and skills session were on the schedule for the re-commencement of pre-season.

Brett Goodes was the best performed in the two kilometre run, leading home teammates Jason Tutt, Stewart Crameri and Matthew Boyd.

Top draft pick Marcus Bontempelli also provided the small contingent of Bulldogs fans looking on with something to talk about, impressively leading home his group in the time trial with one of the morning’s better performances.

Following the run, the players were put through their paces by assistant coaches Brett Montgomery, Steven King, Shannon Grant and Rohan Smith in a skills session lasting over one hour.

An afternoon weights session rounded out the first day back for 2014, with less than 80 days remaining until the Club’s first match of the home and away season against the West Coast Eagles at Subiaco.

VU Whitten Oval will be open to members and fans to watch pre-season training, with Monday, Wednesday and Friday sessions open to the public, commencing at 9:45am until further notice.
