41 Western Region students received their Victorian Certificate of Learning (VCAL) certificates at the 2010 SpiritWest Services’ Fresh Program Graduation Ceremony held last night.

Last night’s ceremony highlighted the achievements of students who have completed their studies and commended those who are still studying on their efforts so far.
In conjunction with our corporate and community partners, Western Bulldogs SpiritWest Services’ (SWS) Fresh Program provides young people (15-20) with not just another chance to achieve senior secondary qualifications, but a chance to undertake a broad array of learning programs that allow each individual to build social capacities and achieve sustainable change in their life.

With the support of the staff and teachers at Fresh, young people who may not have had the opportunities available to them to achieve a secondary education are given the chance to complete the VCAL and other vocational certificates, giving them a pathway to further education and entry into the workforce.

‘Most of our students go on to further certificates at TAFE in a variety of fields or take on apprenticeships as the program offers great transitional steps for students.’ Fresh teacher, Adam Densley says. ‘We keep in touch with our students for about 18 months after they receive their certificate to keep offering support and help facilitate that transition.’

The Fresh Program aims to empower young people through relevant education programs that provide opportunities to explore academic, personal and vocation potential.

The Western Bulldogs are proud of the Fresh Program and the role it plays in contributing to life changing opportunities for a most vulnerable group in our community. Through continued collaboration, 2011 will see the on-going provision of a high quality education alternative for marginalised young people in the western region of Melbourne.
