Highly respected Western Bulldogs veterans Lindsay Gilbee and Ryan Hargrave will retire as one Club players at the end of Season 2012.

Ending speculation that either player would line up for an opposing team next year, Hargrave and Gilbee were reminiscent on their time at the Bulldogs at Whitten Oval today.

“I am a cooked yabby I’d say,” Gilbee joked.

“It is definitely over for me - might play a little bit of local footy… will definitely have a kick around it just won’t be at this level.

“We have four weeks to go and I would love to enjoy it as much as I can and still get something out of the year and leave on good terms and that is what we will do.”

While Gilbee, a known joker around the Club, referred to the choice as “a change of career… [because] retirement is for 65 year olds”, Hargrave was happy to say he was retiring and was ready to take some time off.

Hargrave said injuries in the past twelve months had impacted his decision and prompted him to start weighing up his future.

“Halfway through the year I had definitely made the decision,” Hargrave said.

“I have enjoyed my time at the Dogs and I am happy to be a one club player.”

Both drafted in the ‘Class of 1999’, Gilbee and Hargrave have played 206 and 203 games respectively and have been excellent servants of the Club.
