Revisit the draft years that brought in the current crop of Bulldogs players, continuing with the year 2008.

JORDAN ROUGHEAD

The Club’s vice-captain was a product of the 2008 draft, recruited with pick number 31 from TAC Cup side North Ballarat.

Roughead made his AFL debut in round five 2010 against Adelaide and has gone on to play 88 games since.

At 200cm, Roughead was originally recruited as a ruckman but spent subsequent years developing as a defender.

In 2015, the 25-year-old spent time both in the ruck and defence highlighting his versatility.

LIAM PICKEN

Continuing the tradition of successful rookie recruits, Liam Picken was taken at pick number 30 in the 2008 rookie draft.

While playing TAC Cup for North Ballarat, Picken was overlooked coming out of the underage competition and spent time with Williamstown’s VFL side.

Eventually getting his chance in the rookie draft, the mature-aged rookie made his AFL debut in round two 2009 against North Melbourne and hasn’t looked back, reaching his 150-game milestone in the Bulldogs’ elimination final in 2015.

He is one of only two players from the 2008 draft (national and rookie) to have reached the milestone, with Fremantle’s Stephen Hill sitting on 151 games at the end of the 2015 season.

MATT SUCKLING

The Bulldogs latest recruit arrived at the Club through the 2015 Free Agency period, as an unrestricted free agent.

Suckling was originally recruited by Hawthorn, with pick number 81 in the 2008 rookie draft, and was redrafted at pick number 70 in the 2009 national draft.

The 27-year-old has played 102 games, and was part of the Hawks’ 2014 and 2015 premiership sides.
