Western Bulldogs women’s star Katie Brennan has claimed the Susan Alberti award at the Club’s Sutton Medal night.
The award, named in honour of the Club’s current vice-president and pioneer of women’s football, recognises the best player from the Club’s two exhibition matches with Melbourne.
Brennan polled 50 votes, eight ahead of nearest rival and defender Meg Hutchins, while midfielder Katie Loynes finished third with 27 votes.
“It’s been amazing, it’s been so great to play for the Western Bulldogs.
“They’ve really embraced us women and have just paved the way for future generations.
“It’s so great to run out there and play in the red, white and blue, and I consider myself a Bulldog now.”
Brennan kicked five goals in the 16 August match against the Demons, and brought her side back into the contest.
On Wednesday night Brennan expressed her desire to remain with the Club as it pushes towards a national female competition.
“2017 is the goal year so we’re really looking forward to that and training really hard for that.
“I really hope that I can stay a Bulldog, we don’t really know what the outcome is going to be at this stage.
“My hear t is definitely with this Club and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.”
