Explosive half-backs Easton Wood and Jason Johannisen will be monitored during the week by Bulldogs medical staff, following separate collisions in Saturday night's win against Collingwood.
Johannisen collided with teammate Jarred Grant in a marking contest, during the midway stages of the opening term and was taken from the ground.
The hip of Grant – going back with the flight –clipped the on-coming Johannisen who was following his opponent Jarryd Blair to the incoming high ball.
“Jason obviously had a significant collision with Jarrad Grant,” Western Bulldogs General Manager of Football, Graham Lowe, told BulldogsTV.
“We took him off and assessed him at that point and for precautionary reasons decided to leave him off for the rest of the game,” Lowe said.
“He’s responded well, he’s up and about and we’ll make sure the appropriate protocols are in play for the rest of the week.”
Wood was substituted out of the game at the half time break, following an incident that occurred late in the second term.
With a fortnight between matches, Lowe is optimistic both players will be in line for selection for the Easter Saturday season opener against West Coast.
“For both those players we haven’t got a game this week, so there’s a really good opportunity that they’ll be available for round one,” Lowe said.
Meanwhile, young key defender Fletcher Roberts made a successful return to match play in the Footscray Bulldogs VFL practice match win over Werribee, after being closely monitored for groin soreness in recent weeks.
“He got through the game time we prescribed, and we’re going to keep building that in these coming weeks to make sure he’s available in the coming weeks for the senior squad.”
Nathan Hrovat also continues to make strides to returning to play, set to return to full training this week after suffering a rib injury in the Bulldogs’ opening NAB Challenge match.
“Nathan’s certainly tracking ahead of schedule, he’s responded well to recovery – in terms of recovery from the incident but also the training side of things
“We’re progressing him back to full contact (training) this week.”
Shane Biggs’ rehab from a hamstring injury also continues well on schedule, with the running half-back expected to be available in the early rounds of the home and away season.
