The Western Bulldogs have improved their position in the 2015 NAB AFL Draft by securing three picks in the top 30 at the conclusion of the NAB AFL Trade Period.

After assessing this year’s draft pool as even in talent after the first handful of players, the Bulldogs moved to bolster the number of picks the Club had inside the Top-30 by collecting Carlton's picks 20 and 21 in exchange for pick 11.

This means the Club will now go to the draft with picks 20, 21 and 30.

The Bulldogs used its 2016 third round selection in return for Carlton's 2016 fourth round selection as part of the deal.

The final deal of the NAB AFL Trade Period was to send defender Michael Talia and pick 69 to the Swans, in exchange for a 2016 fourth round selection.

List Manager Jason McCartney was positive about the Club’s position at the conclusion NAB AFL Trade Period.

“Our broader focus was on retention and stability — and Matt Suckling was an important acquisition for us heading into trade period with his experience and versatility,” he said.

“We worked proactively to address some additional areas of need, and while we didn’t add any other players to our list, we are extremely pleased with the value we have been able to secure in draft picks, which was the equivalent to about 400 extra Draft Value Index (DVI) points.”

“After a comprehensive assessment of the talent pool in the upcoming draft, we believe we are in an eminently stronger position than at the beginning of this trade period with those picks inside the Top-30.”

The Bulldogs secured dual premiership player Matthew Suckling as an unrestricted free agent and will enter the upcoming 2015 NAB AFL Draft with four live picks (20,21,30 and 51).

In: Matthew Suckling, 20,21 and two 2016 fourth round selections.
