The Diwali Festival Comes to the West
The annual Diwali Festival, will be celebrated in grand style this year at the home of the Western Bulldogs
This is the first time the traditional Indian Festival will take place in the West, Mr. Dinesh Malhotra, a passionate Indian Australian who has lived in Footscray for over a decade is excited to see the celebration take place in the West. He believes “these festivities will give locals and the broader community the perfect opportunity to learn more about Indian culture by participating in Bollywood dance lessons, listening to traditional Indian music and sampling the amazing array of Indian food and sweets that will be on offer.”
The celebration will be free to attend and will feature a cricket match with some of Australia’s greatest cricketers, a Bollywood dance performance and group lesson, henna painting and other Indian cultural activities, culminating in a spectacular fireworks display at 8pm. Miss India Australia Bollywood will be hosting a fashion parade, and the crowning of Miss Bollywood Talent 2009 will take place on the day, which is sure to be a highlight of the 2009 Diwali in the West festival.
This event is proudly sponsored by the Victorian Multicultural Commission, Western Bulldogs, Maribyrnong City Council, Victoria Police, the Metropolitan Fire Brigade, Cricket Victoria, Victoria University, the Bharat Times and the West Footscray Neighbourhood House.
