Could Shane Biggs have a future as a cricketer?

In a memorable retirement Q&A at the Charles Sutton Medal on Wednesday, Biggs admitted he had become emotional when thinking about what he would leave behind after he announced his retirement during the season.

Asked by former captain Bob Murphy how he planned to spend his time post retirement, Biggs joked that he was thinking about taking up cricket.

“Mate, I was just talking about it at the table. I’m thinking of rolling the arm over,” he said.

“So a couple of doorknobs. (I’m) useless at cricket but pretty excited to just do stuff like that.

“Maybe fit into the middle or the late order and try and knock the ball around as best I can.”

The 27-year-old, who played 63 games AFL games, including a vital role in the Dogs’ 2016 premiership, hung up the boots in August.

Biggs said the most memorable moment of his career was when teammate Jason Johannisen’s attempt to dye his hair went awry, and the Norm Smith Medallist ended up having to shave it off.

“Honestly my favourite moment was Round 1, 2016, when JJ had a hair disaster and he rolled in with a skin bald shaved head,” Biggs said.

“That was my favourite moment of footy, I think.”

Biggs did save some time to tap into his emotions in front of the 1300-strong crowd at Crown Palladium, and thousands more who were watching the live stream on westernbulldogs.com.au.

“Talking to some people in here, that’s when I’ve got a bit emotional,” he said.

“You realise what you have with people – you don’t until you stop.  And when it happens, you sort of take it for granted a little bit.

“But, I’ve got the same number everyone, if you want to give me a text – and I’ll send you a couple of whatevers, a couple of photos and that.

“It’s pretty much same as, so don’t worry about it.”
