The Western Bulldogs are pleased to announce that Peter German has been appointed as the Club’s new Development Coach and Williamstown Coach in the VFL.

German played 185 games with the North Melbourne Football Club between 1984-1994, where he was renowned for his silky skills on the run.

Since then he has gained a wealth of experience through his coaching career which has taken him across the country.

Williamstown Football Club General Manager Brendan Curry said today that he is delighted to have such a highly credentialed coach on board for the 2010 season.

“We are thrilled to have a coach of Peter’s standing, given the fact he coached Burnie in Tasmania and had premiership success in West Australia with Subiaco.  He also had great experience at Hawthorn, West Coast and Fremantle as an assistant coach.  We think he will be fantastic for the development of both the Western Bulldogs players and our own VFL footballers,” Curry said.

German took the Casey Scorpions to the VFL finals this year and it was this effort that saw him named as the 2008 VFL Coach of the Year.

Western Bulldogs General Manager of Football James Fantasia echoed Curry sentiments.

“Peter brings a wealth of experience in not only the coaching aspect but in the development of young talent.  We are very excited to have him on board for next year,” he said.

German’s appointment means there will be a slight change within the Club’s Football Department.

“Current Development Coach Chris Maple’s position has been slightly restructured, he now becomes the Development Manager overseeing the Western Bulldogs Development Program.  Together Chris and Peter will continue with our focus on bringing through our young talent,” Fantasia said.

While German says he is looking forward to the challenge ahead of him

“It is a different challenge in terms of what I have been doing over the last 12 months, I will have a hands on role with the development of the Western Bulldogs players, while being in charge of the Williamstown VFL side.  I am looking forward to the challenge of bringing the two groups together and working towards a successful outcome,” German said.
