Western Bulldogs debutant Lukas Webb says he is “humbled” by the opportunity to debut for the Club just three rounds in to the 2015 season.
Recruited to the Kennel with the pick 27 overall in the 2014 NAB AFL National Draft, Webb will line-up against the reigning premiers Hawthorn at Aurora Stadium on Sunday in his first senior game.
“It feels pretty good, I’m pretty humbled to play so early,” Webb told BulldogsTV.
"I guess I’ll just take it one step at a time and see how I go on the weekend and hopefully it’s a good outcome.”
Webb got the call from senior coach Luke Beveridge on Thursday afternoon, to inform him he’d be joining the team when they travel to Launceston.
“I got a call from Luke last night about four o'clock, he rang me and broke the news which is pretty exciting, I didn’t really know what to say at the start.”
While he might have been at a loss for words, the 19-year-old has provided plenty on the football field in the last month, impressing with his run off half-back in Footscray’s VFL practice matches.
Webb was named as an emergency in round two, but this week will get his chance to run out with the senior side and will be the Bulldogs' first debutant of 2015.
“He (Luke) just said I’d been playing pretty well, training pretty well on the track and a spot opened up so they were happy to play me.”
While not having played a match with several of his new teammates, Webb said the experience he gained in the Club’s NAB Challenge match against Melbourne should hold him in good stead for Sunday’s match.
“That hit out was pretty good just to sort of settle the nerves a little bit.
“The confidence that I had at the end of the game… I’ll try and use that early in the game on Sunday but I’ll just try and play it like every other game I’ve played, it should be good.”
