The Victoria University Western Spurs have started their season with an even win-loss ratio, sitting three and three after six rounds of the Victorian Women’s Football League.
The Spurs currently sit in sixth place on the revamped women’s state league competition.
Formerly the VU St Albans Spurs, the Club rebranded in the offseason, and alongside their partnership with the Western Bulldogs the new name highlights the side’s affiliation with the western region.
Spurs coach Debbie Lee said she was looking forward to continuing the season, under the new partnership.
“This is a perfect brand fit for the Club and compliments our current partnerships with Victoria University and Maribyrnong City Council.
“The partnership will provide great benefits to our athletes and staff with access to elite training facilities, medical, player education, fundraising and provide us with the opportunity to play a curtain raiser to a Footscray VFL match.”
Bulldogs ruckman Jordan Roughead is once again acting as a mentor to the side, entering his second year as an assistant coach.
The Spurs will play a curtain raiser to the VFL match between Footscray and Richmond at VU Whitten Oval on Saturday 9 July.
