The Bulldogs list of father-son recruits is a mile-long, but there’s another player with an impressive football pedigree who’s making his mark at the Kennel.
The Jarman name doesn’t carry the weight of a Liberatore or a Waliis at the Kennel but there are unmistakeable shades of Declan Hamilton’s uncles, Andrew and Darren in his still developing game.
Hamiltion is one of the latest line of Bulldogs pups to sign a contract extension this season, a one-year deal that will see him in the Bulldogs colours until at least the end of the 2017 season.
Drafted as a half-back/wing, the 182cm Hamilton has spent the majority of his time forward of the centre this season, and in his polish around goal and his slick ball use, the Jarman bloodlines are apparent.
By his own admission, the 20-year-old enjoys a goal, and has relished the opportunity to go forward more often.
“I’m really enjoying playing a bit higher up the ground,” he told westernbulldogs.com.au
“It allows me to use my tank and work well over the ground, get to some dangerous spots and hopefully finish off with a bit of polish which is the cornerstone of my game.
“It’s nice to kick a couple of goals as well.”
The Port Magpies product has averaged 18 disposals this season, including three inside-50s, for Footscray in the VFL, and despite having not played a game at senior level yet, he’s determined to put the work in until he does.
“I just want to keep playing some good footy in the twos and hopefully if I get an opportunity later in the year that would be great,” he said.
“But if not, I feel like I’ve had a really solid year and a solid two years in the VFL and it holds me in really good stead for next year.”
