Ahead of this year’s Charles Sutton Medal on Wednesday 2nd October, westernbulldogs.com.au reflects on the most recent winners of the Club’s best and fairest player award.
Easton Wood
Capping off a stunning 2015 season, defender Easton Wood received his first Charles Sutton Medal.
Averaging 7 marks and 6.3 contested possessions per game, the then 26-year-old was the clear winner ahead of captain Robert Murphy (229) and second-year player Marcus Bontempelli (226).

In a breakout year, the high-flying defender received ample recognition, receiving his first All-Australian blazer and locking in a three-year contract extension with the Club. Shortly after, Wood was named vice-captain of the Club for 2016, where he led his side to a premiership in the absence of Robert Murphy.
In his first year as captain, Robert Murphy enjoyed a stellar 2015 season where he averaged 22.4 disposals and 4.5 marks across 21 appearances, earning him the Doug Hawkins medal in his 16th season at AFL level.
In just his second year of AFL football, then 19-year-old Marcus Bontempelli landed third in the Club’s best and fairest count. Averaging 21 disposals and five clearances per game, it was hard to believe that Bontempelli’s best was yet to come.
The Western Bulldogs will crown this year’s Charles Sutton Medal to the best and fairest player of the 2019, on Wednesday October 2nd at Crown Palladium.
