Eight Young Leaders from Brimbank City Council impressed senior council officials with articulate and confident speeches last night as part of The Whitten Project council presentations.
The presentations form a critical component of The Whitten Project, providing opportunities for Young Leaders to talk about their experiences and learnings throughout the six month program, as well as the outcome of their Community Leadership Projects with senior council staff.
As they have done throughout the course of the project, the Young Leaders conducted themselves with a professionalism, maturity and confidence well beyond their years. Council Administrators were clearly impressed with the nature in which the young people handled themselves throughout the five minute formal presentations with one staff member remarking “I couldn’t have done that when I was that age”.
Brimbank Young Leaders have enthusiastically embraced the Community Leadership Project, an optional task designed to provide Young Leaders with project planning skills as well as connections their local community.
Amongst the many and varied activities undertaken by the Young Leaders included: establishment of the first ever female Baseball team at Sunshine Baseball Club, fundraising initiatives at St Albans/Caroline Springs Netball Association to purchase new equipment and uniforms, junior football coaching at Sunshine Football Club, fundraising for the EJ Whitten Foundation conducted at the Western Region Football League Senior Finals and volunteer roles with the Western Bulldogs’ Men’s Health and Indigenous programs.
Moonee Valley City Council Young Leaders are the next group to present to council on Tuesday 14th October.
