Despite kicking six goals and four behinds in the last two weeks, Western Bulldogs forward Tory Dickson remains as one of the most accurate shots at goal in the competition in season 2015.
The sharpshooter has kicked 40 goals and 12 behinds from 20 games this season and sits third in the competition for accuracy in front of goal behind Gold Coast’s Gary Ablett and Hawthorn’s Luke Breust*.
Despite being one of the most accurate in the game, Dickson says there’s no secret to his trade.
“To be honest it’s something I take a lot of pride in, I’ve always been a fairly good set shot,” said Dickson speaking with Croc Media’s Sportsday radio program on Monday night.
“The main fundamentals are making sure my ball drop’s nice and close to when I release it to my foot, following through momentum, and getting back off the mark and giving myself enough room.
“I do little bit of extra goal kicking Thursday mornings before our main session but other than that it’s not a great deal of extras.”
Dickson has played every game this season, his most consistent in his four years at the Club.
His 40 goals, alongside Jake Stringer’s 40, Stewart Crameri’s 24 and Tom Boyd and Jack Redpath sharing the power forward load throughout the season have created a dynamic forward set up for the Dogs.
It’s the first time since 2011 that the Bulldogs have two players with over 40 goals in a season. Back then it was the combination of Barry Hall (55) and now assistant coach Daniel Giansiracusa (45) that combined.
Dickson says that the ability to spread the load across the ground, and the pressure from every player has allowed for a higher-scoring Bulldogs outfit.
“Seeing as the ball’s moving so much better… that attacking sort of game style opens up and it’s a lot easier for us forwards to work together and get on the end of it.
“We’re all working for each other, and I guess we’ve got such a good midfield these days delivering the ball… everyone reaps the rewards.”
