To think that we’re almost halfway through the inaugural AFLW season is crazy. It’s been a whirlwind since November, and that has only intensified since the season kicked off.
Seeing the attention the league as a whole is getting is a credit to those that have made it all possible. From the trailblazers that have been supporting women’s football for decades, to those that have put the league together - the work they’ve done is tremendous.
Having a platform to showcase women’s football on the national stage is something that, we as players, do not take for granted.
Looking back at the first three weeks of the season results in mixed emotions. That first round win against Fremantle was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced on the football field – a truly historic night. But to follow that up with two losses, is extremely disappointing.
No one is satisfied with how we have been playing, and we are doing everything in our power to turn the tide.
We know we haven’t played our best football yet and that there is improvement from within our team.
Focusing on what we can control has been vital this week; training hard, keeping spirits high and a trust that if we follow our processes the results will take care of themselves.
Seeing the red, white and blue faithful in full flight for three straight weeks has been a sight to behold for the playing group. Before arriving at the Kennel, I’d heard stories about how authentic and real the Bulldogs fans are, but I don’t think words do it justice.
We feel a sense of responsibility every time we run out at VU Whitten Oval, a responsibility to wear the guernsey with pride. Although the results haven’t gone our way the last two weeks, I believe we haven’t given up or thrown in the towel.
And you certainly won’t see us back away from the challenge that is presented to us by Collingwood this weekend.
Having the chance to go to work against the Magpies, in front of our home fans at VU Whitten Oval for the last time this season, is really exciting.
Although they are yet to win a game, the Magpies have dangerous players all over the ground and we can’t afford to let them get going early. We'll be ready.
We hope to see you all there on tomorrow night as we look to bounce back against Collingwood.
