The chance to get a way as a team for the first time this past weekend was exciting. Whilst having our first 5 games in Victoria was a great, we were all looking forward to going on our first road trip.
The challenge in front of us was facing the Lions in Brisbane, the only remaining unbeaten team in the competition.
Last week against Carlton we had a real focus on ourselves and following our processes – which resulted in an improved showing – and this was the way we attacked this week too.
Although we lost the game by 7 points, we were able to battle back and really give Brisbane a tough game.
It was clear that our second quarter wasn’t good enough – our lapses in that quarter which saw them score 2 goals, was ultimately the difference.
The second half fightback proved to ourselves that we can match it with the best teams in the competition. Although we haven’t been able to kick a winning score enough this season, the fact that we’ve been in most games right up until the final siren is a positive.
Obviously that fact is also very frustrating. Close losses are not what we’re aiming for and we will be looking to turn this around in our final game of the season against the Greater Western Sydney Giants.
The season hasn’t panned out how any of us would’ve hoped, but that only makes us more motivated as we look forward to Saturday night in Canberra.
Pulling on the red, white and blue guernsey for the final time in season 2017 will be another moment to savour – just as every game has been.
It’s crazy to think that the season is almost over – it has absolutely flown by and whilst we haven’t achieved the results we were hoping for, it has been an incredible experience.
Personally, one thing that has stood out to me throughout this journey - that will stay with me for a very long time – is the support we’ve received from the Bulldogs faithful.
Just as we saw this past weekend in Brisbane, it was pretty awesome to see Bulldogs flags waving proudly in the crowd!
We all really appreciated the support from the die-hard Doggies fans that were cheering us on in the heat - just as you have been all season long.
