Matthew Boyd called time on a long and decorated career last week.
Or was it Dale Morris? More than one news organisation seemed to get the pair mixed up in their bulletins and social media posts. Why? It’s hard to say.
Both have been around for a while, both are renowned hard nuts and they have, kind of, the same hair colour.
It’s one thing for news organisations to get the pair mixed up, but it’s extended beyond that apparently.
Dale Morris had a laugh on Triple M’s The Rub last week about the time he was congratulated on being appointed skipper by a fan in the Club café.
“I remember when he got the captaincy I went to the café at the footy club and this older lady come up to me and said, ‘I’m so proud, you’ve done so well, I’ve followed your whole career from Frankston…’, and as soon as I heard that I’ve gone, ‘oh no,’ she thinks I’m Boyd.”
“She said, ‘I’m just so happy for you to get the captaincy, Boydy.’”
Typically, Morris handled it like a gentleman.
“I’m there and I’ve gone, ‘thanks, it’s a real honour, I’m rapt.’”
@SENNews @SENfooty Seriously, is it that hard to get the right picture? I am sick of this! Dale Morris IS NOT Matthew Boyd. #pathetic pic.twitter.com/CdSLvf6fan

But it hasn’t stopped there according to Matthew Boyd who received a message of support from the Cheer Squad on the weekend. Except, it was meant for someone else.
“On the weekend, Friday night footy, I’m doing a bit of media before and I’ve walked down the race and two guys from the Cheer Squad, who had their official Cheer Squad jumpers on, said ‘You’re a great player Moz, we really need you back out there,” he said.
“I thought yeah, thanks mate, you’re obviously a massive fan.“
For the record, this is Dale Morris and this is Matthew Boyd.
