In a match that rarely reached great heights, Stringer at least dragged it to a loftier level.
Just 21 days after initially thinking he had done his ACL, and in his first game back from the injury, he kicked a game-high five goals in his most compelling performance since the early stages of last season.
The Dogs’ defence was rock solid, with Jason Johannisen and Easton Wood providing great run, the midfield was superb in running off and shutting down the Saints’ much-talked about runners, and the forwards worked well in tandem, sharing the goals.
Lachie Hunter shut out Jack Steven like few have been able to manage this season.

It was Stringer who kept them in the game during the first half, but by the third term he had plenty of help. Outgunned early, the Dogs midfielders showed their superiority as the game wore on.
Lachie Hunter blanketed Jack Steven, Jack Macrae and Luke Dahlhaus became key contributors, Lin Jong worked hard at the coalface, while Mitch Wallis wasn't missing a beat in his second senior game back from a knee reconstruction.
Bob Murphy had some shaky moments in the first half but his class came to fore as the day went on, while Jason Johannisen's run also became increasingly telling, and youngster Bailey Dale played a beauty.

Stringer has been nicknamed 'The Package' in recent years but could have taken on 'The Difference' as his moniker on Saturday, as his team overcame a sloppy start to maintain its place in the top-eight with a 13.12 (90) to 7.8 (50) win.
After two weeks out with a medial ligament strain in his knee, Stringer was on from the start, kicking four goals in the first half and keeping his side in the contest when St Kilda had periods of control.
His speed on the lead, movement off the mark and uncanny goal sense made him difficult to contain for the Saints' defenders, and he finished with 15 disposals and seven marks.
