The Western Bulldogs Community Foundation, together with AMES Australia hosted the 2017 AMES Cup at Whitten Oval, last Wednesday, 24th May.
With help from Western Bulldogs players Jason Johannisen and Lin Jong, over 150 participants from the ‘Ready, Settle, Go!’ program took part in various football games and activities throughout the day.
The AMES Cup is targeted at youths involved in the Western Bulldogs Community Foundation’s ‘Ready, Settle, Go!’ program.
With a large focus placed upon social inclusion, ‘Ready, Settle, Go!’ encourages participants to interact with culturally and linguistically diverse groups, within their community.
It also aims to assist students in creating social connections while providing opportunities to learn English language skills in a social setting.
The program and its events aim to boost employability skills through sport, with a sufficient focus on teamwork and communication. Through this, the Western Bulldogs Community Foundation aim to ease the transition of newly arrived migrants into their new communities.
‘Ready, Settle, Go!’ is delivered in the local government areas of Wyndham, Hobsons Bay, Melton, Maribyrnong and Brimbank.
