After a highly successful 2015 season, culminating in an All-Australian selection as captain, Robert Murphy has again been endorsed by the Club’s playing group to lead the team for another season.
Easton Wood and Marcus Bontempelli were also acknowledged for outstanding seasons both on and off the field and were voted in by their peers as new faces in the leadership group, replacing Jordan Roughead and Tom Liberatore.
Easton Wood was named vice-captain for 2016, and joins Dale Morris and Matthew Boyd in the leadership group of five.
Murphy said he felt privileged to lead the team for another season and endorsed the new faces in the leadership group.
“It’s an honour to lead the club, it’s been an honour of mine to play for the club for a long time,” Murphy said.
“To run out and lead these guys every week is something that is very special.”
“They’re (Wood and Bontempelli) high quality people, great players, and I think they really capture a lot of the spirit of the team and the club at the moment.”
Easton Wood said he looks forward to taking on the responsibility to help shape the direction of the team.
“It’s exciting to be part of the leading where the Club’s going and I’m proud and excited to be part of it,” Wood said.
“I think my leadership will be an extension of what we’ve already been doing, and certainly there are more responsibilities that comes with it, but I’m excited about being in this group and look forward to the challenges ahead.”
