Jackson Macrae – Round 8 vs Brisbane
In a year which has yielded career-best form, Macrae’s performance against Brisbane in Round 9 was nothing short of exceptional. He amassed a huge 47 disposals, including 26 in a dominant first half.
A week after having 40 touches against the Gold Coast Suns, the left-footer finished with an equal game-high 18 contested possessions, a game-high 10 clearances and an equal game-high eight inside 50s.
Macrae also had 10 score involvements — six more than his closest rival.
In a season where he averaged 32.8 disposals, this was a standout performance from Macrae.
Jason Johannisen – Round 20 vs St Kilda
Johannisen responded to a quiet outing in Ballarat in Round 19 in fine style, by being one of the Dogs’ best against the Saints the following week, helping the Club snap a four-game losing streak.
Bringing his trademark run and carry off half back, he finished with a career-high 42 disposals.
Johannisen did the job at both ends of the ground, amassing 12 rebound-50s and delivering the ball inside 50 five times.
Marcus Bontempelli – Round 20 vs St Kilda
It wasn’t the classic four-quarter domination we’re more used to from Bontempelli, but his second half heroics against the Saints were arguably as influential as anyone’s this season.
With just six touches to half time, the ‘Bont’ caught fire in the third, booting an incredible four goals from 10 touches to help the Dogs to a match-winning lead at the final change.
Caleb Daniel – Round 21 vs North Melbourne
In the Bulldogs’ thrilling seven-point win over North Melbourne, Daniel notched up 40 disposals by playing a perfect defensive sweeper’s role.
Daniel, who was more familiar to fans playing higher up the field, transitioned to defence perfectly, used his run and elite skills to cut through the Kangaroos’ defensive setup.
The 22-year-old’s ball use and poise in traffic was instrumental for the Dogs’ run and carry off half-back.
The shift invigorated Daniel’s season - he averaged 30 disposals in his last four games as he found a new home among the likes of seasoned defenders Dale Morris, Jason Johannisen and Hayden Crozier.
