As far as debut games go, the Western Bulldogs would have been pleased with what they saw from Fergus Greene.

After two seasons developing with Footscray in the VFL, the 20-year-old got his chance against Port Adelaide on Sunday.

Despite his side ultimately falling short of the Power, Greene showed some promising signs in his first senior outing.

“It’s been a bit of a whirlwind the past couple of days… obviously it would have been good to get the win but at the end of the day it was pretty exciting to step out there,” Greene told westernbulldogs.com.au post-game.                                       

“Everyone will tell you: ‘just play it like you would a normal game’, but there is a bit (of nerves) there.

“It probably didn’t hit me until about lunch time (on Sunday) and I was just eating spaghetti bol and was sort of struggling to get it down.

“Everyone gave me a bit of advice and it was good to go out there with a bit of confidence and have that experience around you.”

Greene hit the scoreboard early, via a pinpoint pass from Ed Richards and slotted his first goal in AFL football – a moment he says he won’t forget anytime soon.

“It was a nice kick by Ed. It was good to get one quickly just to sort of settle into the game and find my feet.

“I probably went a bit hard on the celebration but that’s alright. It was a special moment, I’ll remember it for a while.”
