The Swans have made two changes for tonight’s clash with Kurt Tippett and Oliver Florent both being omitted from the side with former captain Kieren Jack and ruckman Sam Naismith to take their places against the Dogs.

In defence the Swans are a settled unit headlined by Dane Rampe whose ability to intercept and organise the back six is seen to be vital. Both Rampe and Callum Mills read the ball well in the air with their intercept marking a standout. Heath Grundy provides a steadying influence capable of playing on the opposition’s best key forward which allows Rampe and Mills to play with greater freedom.

Nick Smith is a quality lockdown defender capable of playing on dangerous small forwards who alongside Jake Lloyd provides stability across half back. Nic Newman has also shown a willingness to take the game on with his dash out of defence.

Throughout the middle it’ll be a fascinating battle on the inside due to the likes of skipper Josh Kennedy and Luke Parker both being prominent at stoppages. Kennedy and Parker are supported by Dan Hannebery who provides a great balance to the midfield through impacting both inside and outside of the contest.  

Young midfielders Zak Jones and Isaac Heeney provide an outside presence to support the work done inside by the above trio. Jones’ move to the midfield has been a success with his speed and penetrating right foot making him a threat. Heeney may split his time between the midfield and up forward as he recovers from glandular fever which sidelined him earlier in the season.

In the forward line Lance ‘Buddy’ Franklin continues to set the benchmark amongst forwards across the competition. Franklin is a constant threat for opposition defenders with his ability to not only hit the scoreboard but also generate scoring opportunities for teammates a feature. 

Franklin has been well supported by Sam Reid with his athleticism making him a constant threat for defenders, particularly in aerial contests.
