Set to farewell the Western Bulldogs in his 210th senior game this Sunday, Daniel Cross will always be held in the highest esteem at the Kennel says Senior Coach Brendan McCartney.
Reflecting on Cross, McCartney directed high praise to the veteran midfielder.
“You are privileged sometimes to see the mechanics of different people and what makes them tick and to hear him speak to his teammates this morning was just outstanding,” McCartney said.
“If he was your son you would be pretty proud of what you’ve raised, I would have thought.”
Lauded for his grit and determination over his 209-game career, Cross had provided an impeccable example for the next generation of Bulldogs, setting the standard for commitment and application both on and off the field.
“I don’t think I’ve seen too many more competitive people and I certainly haven’t come across too many players who play every contest like it’s their last one,” he said.
“It’s testament to his commitment to the game and his courage that he does want to pursue the career that he has.
“His capacity to train and rub off on people and just the commitment that he has hour by hour and day by day to the game is just a great example to young people.”
“We wish him well and we hope things work out well for him and we thank him for what he has done for us.”
