The Western Bulldogs premiership chances will now come down to next Saturday night’s clash with Melbourne after a chance to book a place in the grand final went begging after an 18-point loss to GWS in Canberra.
The visitors started strongly behind midfielder Emma Kearney’s dominant opening term before the Giants wrestled back control of the game in the second quarter.
The two sides traded blows after half time before the Giants slammed the door shut with a three goal to zero final term, setting up a fascinating final round of AFLW football next weekend.
Kearney (21 disposals, eight tackles) was again influential and was the Dogs best performer, while Kirsty Lamb (10 disposals, four marks, four tackles), Jenna Bruton (11 disposals) and Brooke Lochland (15 disposals, eight marks) worked hard all night.
Stand-in skipper Ellie Blackburn (17 disposals) gathered plenty of ball in the middle and Hannah Scott was a pillar in defence.
The Dogs take on Melbourne under lights at VU Whitten Oval next Saturday night in the final round of the season.
