Superstar midfielder Marcus Bontempelli has won the 2019 Charles Sutton Medal.

The 23-year-old was named the Bulldogs’ best and fairest at Crown Palladium on Wednesday night, polling 299 votes to win the award.

Remarkably, it is Bontempelli’s third Charles Sutton Medal in his six seasons at the Bulldogs.

He previously won the award in 2016 and 2017, and has had five consecutive podium finishes after being third in 2015 and 2018.

The award completes another outstanding individual season for the Bulldogs’ vice-captain.

Bontempelli also won the AFLCA Champion Player of the Year Award and earned All Australian honours for the second time.

He played all 23 AFL matches this season, averaging 26.3 disposals per game and polling 22 Brownlow votes to finish equal-eighth in the count.

Josh Dunkley finished second with 270 votes to claim the Doug Hawkins Medal and Jack Macrae finished third, winning the Gary Dempsey Medal with 268 votes.

Macrae has now finished in the top three for the past three seasons – after being runner-up in 2018 and third in 2017 – while it is Dunkley’s career-best finish in the count.

The best and fairest award is voted on by the Bulldogs’ match committee, with five members awarding a score from zero to five for each player after every game.

Bontempelli and Dunkley shared the John van Groningen Domestique award, which is voted on by the players after each match.

Dunkley’s breakthrough season also saw him named the Tony Liberatore Most Improved Player.

First-year Bulldog Sam Lloyd received the Brad Johnson Best Team Player award, with draftee Bailey Smith being named the Chris Grant Best First Year Player.

Defender-turned-forward Aaron Naughton won the Locker Group Coaches Award, and influential defender Caleb Daniel took home the Scott West Most Courageous Player honour.
