Former Western Bulldogs captains Bob Murphy, Matthew Boyd and Brad Johnson have been named in the Victorian squad in this year’s E.J Whitten Legends match on Friday 30^th August.

While it won’t be the first time Johnson has donned the Victorian guernsey, Boyd and Murphy will play their first Legends match against the All Stars.

Bob Murphy said he won’t be taking his role lightly in the fun, commemorative match.

“It’s an honour to don the Big V guernsey in honour of Teddy Whitten and to support his legacy in driving awareness of the importance of early detection and treatment of men’s health issues – including prostate cancer which took Ted’s life,” Murphy said.

“Make no mistake, we’ll bring our very best on the night and we encourage footy fans to rally behind the cause and come along to be part of the action at AAMI Park,” he added.

Also making his debut appearance in the Legends match is former Bulldog Matthew Boyd.

“From early in my career, Ted Snr was an inspiration to me, so I jumped at the chance to honour him and the important work the E.J. Whitten Foundation is doing for prostate cancer research,” Boyd said.

This year the Vics will be coached by five time premiership player Dermott Brereton with AFLW star Daisy Pearce as assistant coach, while seven time All Australian, Wayne Carey and Sabrina Frederick will coach the All Stars.

Dual Coleman Medallist Brendan Fevola will lead the charge as captain for the Victorian team, while Adelaide Crows champion and last year’s E.J. Whitten Medal winner Andrew Jarman will skipper the All Stars.

The 2019 E.J. Whitten Legends Game will be broadcast from 7.30pm EST on Friday August 30 on Channel 7, 7mate and Foxtel, and via the Telstra AFL Live Pass and Kayo. Tickets via ticketek.com.au.
