The Western Bulldogs have fined Assistant Coach, Steven King $5,000, to be donated to support victims of road trauma, after he was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol in Geelong on Sunday morning.

The incident took place around 9:30 am yesterday morning while King was returning to Melbourne after spending the night in Geelong.

King, who has apologised to the Club and players, will also undertake community service and undergo counselling and further education in relation to responsible consumption of alcohol.

The disciplinary action was determined by Club Officials after a meeting with King this morning.

"There are absolutely no excuses for my actions - it was stupid and completely irresponsible," King said today.

"I am extremely disappointed with myself and want to sincerely apologise to everyone I have let down and hurt - especially the Club and my family".

Western Bulldogs Chief Executive, Simon Garlick, said the Club was bitterly disappointed by King’s actions.

"While we know that Steven is gutted by the incident - there is no excuse for this behaviour. Our players and staff all participate in education highlighting the importance of the responsible use of alcohol,” Garlick said.

King will contribute $5,000 to Road Trauma Support Services Victoria a community based, not for profit organisation offering a state-wide counselling, education and support service to people whose lives have been impacted by road trauma.

“The Club will now fully support Steven to learn from his mistake and redeem himself after such a disappointing experience,” Garlick concluded.
