The Western Bulldogs will field four league debutants in their Week 1 clash against GWS this weekend.
All four of the Dogs’ first-round picks from last year’s draft class – Kristie-Lee Weston-Turner, Brooke Barwick, Elaine Grigg and Cleo Buttifant – have been given the green light by coach Tam Hyett and are set to run out in the red, white and blue on Saturday afternoon at Manuka Oval.
Weston-Turner is an athletic forward-midfielder with explosive speed and impressive aerial abilities. Taken with Pick 1 from the Western Jets, the childhood Bulldogs supporter is also juggling her Year 12 studies with football this year.
Barwick’s journey is one of resilience, having been selected with Pick 4 from the Tasmanian Devils despite missing the entire 2023 season while recovering from an ACL injury. An exciting midfielder with elite ball use, Saturday will mark the teenager’s first game of competitive football in over 18 months.

Taken at Pick 6, Grigg is a creative forward-midfielder from Central Districts in South Australia, with great speed, agility and strength - highlighted by her tackling and defensive pressure.
Buttifant is a defender with dazzling pace who reads the ball well. She was selected with Pick 11 from the GWS Giants Academy, making this something of a ‘home’ debut for the Wagga Wagga teen who comes from a touch football background.

While Bulldogs fans and members saw glimpses of the quartet across the pre-season match simulation and practice match outings, Saturday will mark the first time all four play together.
The remainder of the Week 1 team will be confirmed on Thursday night at 6.20pm AEST.
