New Dogs show fight

Led by new coach Tam Hyett for the first time against opposition, the new-look Bulldogs showed a lot of fight against the Tigers.

There were the trademarks - Ellie Blackburn in the middle, Rylie Wilcox on the wing, Sarah Hartwig up forward - but there was also a lot of new, whether that be personnel, positioning or plays.

Draftees excite against league veterans

Elaine Grigg and Cleo Buttifant were repping the draft class of 2023, and they did not disappoint.

In their first runs at AFLW level, the duo showed plenty of speed and creativity, as well as footy IQ beyond their years.

While things didn’t go their way on the scoreboard, the Dogs were relentless in pursuit.

From new skipper De Berry’s defensive smothers to Jess Fitzgerald’s repeat efforts, the entire squad did their best to limit Richmond’s impact with the ball.
