Western Bulldogs captain Marcus Bontempelli says he believes the team is trending in the right direction.
Coming into the final month of the home-and-away season, the Bulldogs are riding a wave of winning momentum.
Their next challenge will come against the ladder-leading Swans at the SCG on Sunday.
Joining Gerard Whateley on SEN 1116, Bontempelli said he was pleased with how the team had adapted each week.
“In terms of how our game is evolving, we think it’s trending in the right direction,” Bontempelli said.
“(What has been) topical for weeks and weeks is how close the competition is, and how important (each game is) from week to week no matter the challenger.
“There's no doubt there's some confidence, but we've got to continue to reproduce things - which hasn't necessarily been our strong suit this season - but it feels like we're trending in the right direction.”
Another positive to come out of the past few weeks is the Dogs’ successful on-field positional changes.
“There’s a few players – you think about Rory as the most recent example – who really, out of necessity had to go into the backline and in that Carlton game was quite exceptional. It was a statement game for him in terms of how it worked,” Bontempelli said.
“There's no doubt been a couple of elements of players moving into positions. We just needed more support and more help, and that's definitely had an impact, but I feel like we’ve also become clearer on how we play the game and reproduce it together on a more consistent basis.
“Someone like Rory and even Ed Richards, who's come into the midfield, it's just rounded out some of those parts of the game for us that I think we needed a little bit more support in.
“That with a few other things – it’s certainly helped us stabilise parts of our game, but as I mentioned the challenge is to continue to do it week to week.”
The Bulldogs will confirm their team of 23 players tonight at 5pm.
