Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge has praised forward-turned-defender Rory Lobb for his career-best outing against Geelong on the weekend.

Lobb registered a career-high 21 disposals to go with nine marks, 14 intercepts and three spoils in the 47-point win, relishing his move to the backline in recent weeks.

“The thing about Rory is that it’s been so difficult at times when he hasn’t been in the team because he’s too good a player, too good a professional and too good a human being really,” Beveridge told media post-game.

“(Being a good human) doesn’t always count for much at selection sometimes, but I’m just really rapt that what he’s doing means his (spot in the team), if he’s fit, should never be questioned.

“We found a way forward with him. I love the fact that he’s got peace of mind, not just in his footy and professional life, but just in general.

“It’s awesome – I know our supporters and fans will just being loving what he’s doing.”

Beveridge also called out Buku Khamis’ impact, along with how cohesively the entire backline group worked together.

“(Lobb) and Buku were just impenetrable. It was a telling key-back performance,” Beveridge said.

“I think the whole backline – the pressure that they could rely on, their read on the game, and how it made their life easier (was impressive).

“Whether it was the two we just spoke about or Taylor Duryea, Nick Coffield, Bailey Dale or Lachy Bramble - even Joel Freijah who is still learning what it’s like to play at this level, has been an important cog in that back seven.”

The Bulldogs next challenge will come against Sydney at the SCG on Sunday afternoon.
