Western Bulldogs utility Riley Garcia says it was pleasing to produce an impactful individual effort against the Swans last Thursday night.
The 23-year-old has endured an unfortunate run with injuries since making his debut in Round 11, 2021 adding just 10 games to his tally across the last two seasons.
But after six straight weeks in the team this year, it all came together for Garcia on Thursday, collecting 18 disposals, four clearances and two goals in defeat.
“It’s always nice to find a bit of form,” he said post-match.
“It’s been a frustrating few years so I’m happy that I’m finding myself in the team where I can influence and bring my strengths.”
Despite being down to just two rotations late, the Bulldogs bravely fought back against Sydney – closing the margin from upwards of 30 points to just eight before ultimately going down by 14 points.
“It was heartbreaking - I feel like it was an arm wrestle all game,” Garcia said.
“They obviously jumped us in the third and fourth (quarters), but to come back and then just lose in the final five minutes hurts.
“I feel like we’ve taken a lot from it – we lost a few early in the game but were still resilient. It’s just unfortunate.
“A loss is a loss, but I feel like we’re building nicely and can bounce back against Collingwood.
“We’re going to need a few players to step up...but I feel like we are confident we can bounce back and respond.”
The Bulldogs will meet Collingwood at Marvel Stadium at 7.40pm on Friday night.
