The Footscray Bulldogs proved their dominance with a commanding 45-point win over GWS in a weather-challenged showdown in Blacktown on Saturday morning.
With a strong AFL presence in both teams, the match was of high quality despite the windy conditions, as the Dogs recorded a 16.13 (109) to 9.10 (64) victory which further extended their undefeated streak.
The first quarter saw Footscray capitalising on the wind while building a robust defence with Caleb Poulter and Jedd Busslinger preventing GWS' forward entries.
Jordan Croft and Lachie McNeil each kicked two goals, helping Footscray to a 24-point lead at quarter-time.
In the second term, the wind turned into a significant challenge for both teams. Footscray struggled to convert, with Sam Willoughby scoring their only goal amid tough conditions.
The third quarter brought the wind back to Footscray's advantage, allowing them to dominate. Dom Bedendo and Poulter each added two goals for the term, giving the Bulldogs a comfortable lead heading into the final quarter where GWS was expected to benefit from the wind.
However, the wind subsided, and Footscray seized the opportunity to seal the game.
In an epic display, the ‘Scray kicked four goals in four minutes, courtesy of Charlie Clarke, Rory Lobb, Bedendo and Anthony Scott, providing too big a gap for the Giants to close.
Poulter was best on ground with an outstanding performance, tallying 30 disposals, eight marks and two goals.
Bedendo impressed with four goals from 13 disposals and nine marks, while Busslinger was formidable in defence, racking up 26 disposals and 10 marks.
The Footscray Bulldogs will aim for their eighth consecutive win when they face Port Melbourne at home on Saturday afternoon.
