The Footscray Bulldogs have come away with their second win of the 2024 VFL season in a see-sawing affair with Casey at Casey Fields.
It was a tight contest from the very beginning, with both teams exchanging goals throughout before the visitors kicked away in the second half to emerge 15.9 (99) to 12.13 (85) victors.
Rory Lobb’s three goals and Trent Bianco’s score at the quarter time siren kept things level at 38 points apiece.
The relentless pursuit continued into the second, but it was the back-to-back working effort from Phoenix Spicer and Arthur Jones that sent the Bulldogs into a crucial seven-point lead at the main break.
The glory run kicked off even further with Lobb adding another two goals to tally, as well as another back-to-back contribution from Charlie Clarke and Spicer.
By the middle of the last quarter the Bulldogs were looking unstoppable, but the hosts refused to back down, mounting a spirited comeback to kick four goals but by then it was too late.
Ultimately it was ‘Scray's composure under pressure and clinical finishing that proved decisive.
Lobb finished with five goals from 15 disposals, while James Harmes (33 disposals, eight marks) and Riley Garcia (31 disposals, seven clearances, six tackles) led the stats sheets.
The Bulldogs will look to continue their winning streak when they face Essendon in two weeks' time, following next week's bye round due to the VFL-SANFL State of Origin clash.
