Bulldogs utility Oskar Baker says recording a 48-point win over Gold Coast was an impressive team effort.

The Dogs piled on nine goals to two in the opening term, which proved to be the difference in the end.

“We came here with a clear focus to get back to the footy we know (we can) play, and we were able to do that in the first quarter - that really set the game up,” Baker said post-match.

“The main message was that in the past when we get leads like that, we let the other team back in, so we just wanted to continue doing everything we were doing in the first quarter and maintaining that throughout the rest of the game.

“It was really pleasing to see how we finished the game and runaway with the win.”

Starting as the substitute, Baker was thrown into the game earlier than anticipated when Nick Coffield suffered a shoulder injury in the first quarter.

He finished with 19 disposals, nine marks, three goals and 415 metres gained from 78% time on ground.

“I’m happy just to come in and play my role,” Baker said.

“I knew coming in as the sub that I wanted to have a clear focus - as if I was playing a full game. Unfortunately Coff went down in the first quarter so when I came on I just wanted to have an impact.

“I took the opportunity with both hands and just felt like I did that.”

Baker credited the 9,750 Ballarat faithful who played a supporting role in the win.

“Especially on the far hill here – it was just great to see so many people and so many loyal supporters,” he said.

“They really helped us in the end there get over the line. It’s so good to see people come out in so many numbers and really get behind the boys.”

Emerging youngster Sam Darcy echoed Baker’s analysis.

“It’s so good – especially after starting the season like that, to come back and fight in front of our home fans in Ballarat. It was unbelievable,” Darcy said.

“I think in the end it was a pretty good four-quarter effort.

“There were a few little hiccups here and there but I’m certainly proud of everyone to get over the line.”

The Bulldogs will next host West Coast at Marvel Stadium on Easter Sunday.
