If ever there was a moment the Dogs needed to find a spark against Adelaide, it was the start of the final quarter when the Crows were in front and looked likely to run away with the game. Enter milestone man Adam Cooney.
Cooney’s first three minutes had everything — electrifying runs, silky goal assists, and a goal from 45 metres out to ignite the Bulldogs to a come from behind victory over the Crows — yet it was his teammate’s never say attitude he wanted to talk about after the game.
“It’s always good to kick a couple of goals when you have a milestone game and even better to get a win so I am really proud of the guys’ efforts today,” Cooney said.
“We fought back hard and we finished our work which is the most pleasing thing.”
“To be able to come back the way we did and fight the game back just shows we are maturing as a side,” he said.
While there is still room for improvement, the 28-year-old believes the evolution of the team’s game plan is progressing well.
“We’ve got the inside right, part of the contested ball which Macca [Senior Coach Brendan McCartney] has been driving really hard,” he said.
“Now we are starting to focus on some outside ball and using our runners and sharing the ball amongst the guys.
“It’s a work in progress, we still have a lot of work to do but we are slowly improving.”
