Western Bulldogs Coaching and Performance Manager Matt Egan is looking forward to getting underway for season 2024.

The newly created role will see Egan closely support senior coach Luke Beveridge in a coaching capacity, while overseeing the development and growth of the entire coaching panel.

With close to 15 years of coaching experience, Egan said he was excited to join the Kennel for many reasons.

“There’s a lot of reasons – (one being) the role is really exciting. I feel like I’ve been building towards this role for 15 years,” Egan explained.

“Next year is my 15th year in coaching, and I’ve worked across a few different roles at a few different clubs, so I’m hoping to settle here and work really closely with Bevo, the coaches and broader Club.

“I think (having so many) different roles – you just learn different things.

"When you’re a head coach you’re at the front presenting and have to be the leader, when you’re head of development you’re more about the drafts and upskilling young players.

“Every role you learn something different. In my role now, I’ll get to work across coaching and a few different programs, and across the high-performance area as well. You’re just hoping to add your experience.”

Egan said he felt closely aligned with Beveridge.

“I’ve always loved Bevo’s story. I just love the way he goes about it, how he talks about his players and his care (for them). I’ve heard it’s the same for staff and coaches in particular,” he said.

“I believe in him and the program, and his style and philosophy. I think we’re really well aligned.

“At the end of the day we’re trying to help the players be the best versions of themselves.

“I’m passionate about that so it’s a really exciting time.”

The AFL playing group will commence 2024 pre-season training later this month.
