Nick Coffield has officially landed at VU Whitten Oval.
The boyhood Bulldogs fan joins the Club after being traded from St Kilda on Wednesday morning.
In a four-way trade with St Kilda, Essendon and Carlton, the Dogs receive Coffield, Pick 52 and Pick 56 in exchange for Pick 40 and the Club’s future-fourth round selection.
A medium size defender, Coffield arrives at the Kennel after two difficult seasons with injury, despite finishing fifth in St Kilda’s best and fairest in 2020 as a 20-year-old.
The Northern Knights product was selected at Pick 8 in the 2017 National Draft, playing 52 games across six seasons at Moorabbin.
Bulldogs’ General Manager of List and Recruiting, Sam Power, was thrilled to bring Coffield into the Club.
“Although Nick has had an interrupted run over the past few seasons, he has demonstrated the ability to have strong impact at AFL level, particularly during the 2020 and 2021 seasons,” Power said.
“Being only 23, Nick has plenty of upside and can bring some exciting attributes to our defensive half.
“The deal has allowed us to slightly increase our points for this season with the inclusion of two third-round selections in exchange for Pick 40, while also only requiring us to trade away a future fourth round selection.”
“We look forward to Nick joining our program in the coming weeks.”
Coffield joins James Harmes as additions to the red, white and blue during the opening week of the AFL Trade Period.
