Adelaide 3rd 8-2 177.6%
Last Meeting
Round 6, 2022 (S6)
Adelaide 7.6 (48) def. by Western Bulldogs 8.1 (49)
The Bulldogs hung onto an extraordinary one-point win over the previously unbeaten Crows at Norwood Oval early last year, shocking the competition. Leading by 15 points at the final change, the visitors withstood a frenzied final term to claim the upset victory. The triumph was even more meritorious considering they were down two players after quarter-time following the early exits of Aurora Smith (knee) and Brooke Lochland (concussion). Ellie Blackburn was magnificent, gathering 23 disposals and kicking a wonderful first-term goal, but the skipper had plenty of help. Kirsty Lamb and Isabelle Pritchard were fantastic in the middle of the ground, while Naomi Ferres was composed in congestion.
Talking Points
Moments forged by First Nations
Rounds seven and eight will commemorate 2023 AFLW Indigenous Round.
As part of the celebrations, the Bulldogs will wear guernseys designed by proud Kerrup-Mara Gunditjmara and Yorta Yorta man Jason Walker for the next fortnight.
The design represents Mirring (country) on Gunditjmara, where the Bulldogs are affiliated with in south-west Victoria, and is inspired by the Lake Condah Possum Skin Cloak.
More information on the guernsey design can be viewed here.
Dogs defy the odds at Norwood
While the winless Bulldogs will enter this clash as underdogs against the undefeated Crows, it’s worth looking back at recent meetings between the two sides.
Remarkably, of four games at Norwood Oval, the Dogs have come away with two wins and two losses.
While the wins were only narrow, it was still four points in the bank on the ladder.
Can the Dogs defy the odds and do it again?
Moving the magnets
Coach Nathan Burke has been forced into moving the magnets over the past few weeks, largely due to injuries but also to try and create something out of nothing.
We’ve seen All Australian defender Katie Lynch play full-forward, explosive midfielder and last year’s leading goalkicker Gabby Newton in the backline, and small forward-mid Lizzy Georgostathis sent back – just to name a few.
With Celine Moody (shoulder) and De Berry (leg) also ruled out for the remainder of the season, we’re bound to see further changes on-field.
The Bulldogs will reveal their team on Thursday night – so only time will tell now.
