Round 8, 2022 (S7)
Western Bulldogs 4.11 (35) def. St Kilda 3.2 (20)
The Western Bulldogs snapped a three-game losing streak in a Pride Round encounter against the Saints in Ballarat last season, holding onto a 15-point victory in slippery conditions. De Berry – spending some time in the midfield – showed just how damaging the former top-10 pick can be, despite a few knocks to her shoulder, recording 14 disposals and two clearances, while Ellie Blackburn (24 and six tackles) led from the front, particularly in the final term. Nathan Burke also celebrated his 400 game milestone as an AFL player and AFLW coach.
Talking Points
The homecoming
Over 580 days since the last match at VU Whitten Oval, the Bulldogs will return to hosting games at the Footscray HQ on Friday night.
While the redevelopment is still ongoing and capacity will be limited, there’s no denying how good it will be to have games back in the west.
The Bulldogs have won six of their last 10 games at VU Whitten Oval, and will be keen to regain the home-ground advantage they’ve been missing.
Duo to miss
The Dogs will be forced into making at least two changes this week, with both Gemma Lagioia (concussion) and Celine Moody (shoulder) sustaining injuries in the loss to Gold Coast.
Elizabeth Snell will be tested this week at training, while Bailey Hunt, Millie Brown, Daisy Bateman and Brit Gutknecht are all available for selection too.
Rocky Cranston could also be considered, as will Naomi Ferres before the team is announced on Thursday night at 6.20pm.
Battle of the Burkes
The Burke household will be split down the middle once again this Friday night, when Bulldogs’ coach Nathan goes against his daughter – and St Kilda player – Alice.
Nathan and his Bulldogs took the bragging rights home in the last encounter – but Alice and her Saints got the win in their inaugural match.
Who will have the last laugh this Friday night?
