The Hampson-Hardeman Cup will celebrate its 10-year anniversary when the Western Bulldogs and Melbourne go head-to-head on Saturday afternoon.
Named in honour of Bob Hampson and Lisa Hardeman, pioneers of women's football, the Cup was established by the two clubs for the inaugural women’s football exhibition match held at the MCG in 2013.
The matches were played annually over four years, prior to the AFLW competition’s inception in 2017.
Since that day at the MCG, the Dogs and Dees have met 13 times – with the Bulldogs trailing four wins to nine.
Skipper Ellie Blackburn is the only one left on the Bulldogs’ list that played in that first 2013 match – representing Melbourne in that outing.
Kirsty Lamb, Bailey Hunt and Kirsten McLeod featured in the inaugural 2017 AFLW clash, as did Dees-turned-Dogs Deanna Berry and Rocky Cranston.
Current Player Development Manager, Nicole Callinan, also represented the red, white and blue as a player in four Hampson-Hardeman Cups from 2017 – 2020.
The Bulldogs will look to regain the Cup when they meet Melbourne at Casey Fields this Saturday at 3.05pm.
